We invite reports of contemporary antisemitism or any report of antisemitism associated with higher education since approximately 2012.

Not sure if the incident was related to antisemitism? The Jewish Community Council has endorsed and uses the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance Working Definition of Antisemitism (the IHRA Working Definition) to consider if whether an incident was antisemitic:

“Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.” 

The IHRA Working Definition provides examples.

Reports will be used to:

• Measure and monitor incidents of antisemitism in South Australia, including what types of incidents are occurring, where they occur, and any trends
• Advocate for the Jewish community, particularly where antisemitism is particularly problematic
• Report incidents of antisemitism in South Australia for inclusion in the Antisemitism in Australia Report
• Where appropriate, report incidents to the South Australian Police
• Where requested, support individuals or organisations to make a formal complaint to the appropriate organisation. 

You have the choice to identify yourself to the Jewish Community Council and for us to identify you to others.  Anonymous reports may create difficulties in researching the incident or making formal complaints. 

We encourage you to, where you feel safe, to identify yourself to the Jewish Community Council, who will keep your identity confidential unless you give us permission to identify you.  If you provide your name and contact details, this information may be used by the Council to contact you. We will request your permission before providing your name or contact information to others.

In some situations, we may be required by law to provide the information we have to relevant authorities.
